City Tech Grant

IBM Seeks to Help Local Governments Solve Sustainability Challenges
IBM is seeking applications from local governments for its Smarter Cities Challenge program. The program provides selected cities with access to teams of IBM technical experts and consultants to analyze unique opportunities and challenges facing municipalities. After conferring with officials, citizens, businesses, academics and community leaders, the IBM teams recommend actions to make the delivery of services to citizens more efficient and innovative. Issues addressed include sustainability, energy, transportation, recreation, jobs, health, public safety, education, and social services. For example, our client Dubuque, IA has been working with IBM to develop tools to help residents reduce electricity usage, improve water efficiency and decrease vehicle miles traveled. Sustainable Strategies DC is eager to help other communities become Smarter Cities. Click herefor a copy of the application. Contact Andrew Seth at(202) 261-9881 or andrew.seth@strategiesdc.comfor more details.

  1. Check out the plan for 2011 grant recipient, Chicago.

    https://smartercitieschallenge.org/city_chicago_il.html

"In Chicago, the IBM team will collaborate closely with the Mayor's office, Chicago Public School leaders, Chicago City Colleges, city departments, civic groups and the private sector during the Smarter Cities Challenge. Through these consultations and analysis, the team will work with Chicago educators and City leaders to create a strategic, step-by-step operational plan to create an educational system that more effectively ties to Chicago's economic future. Among those plans will be the incorporation of the concept of the grade 9-14 school. IBM's work in Chicago will be informed by the company's experience with similar, bold educational initiatives it has helped shape in other challenging cities and educational systems."

  2. Hi Michelle:

Looked over the Smarter Cities web-site and the various material's and videos, etc. Looked at the application elements (but couldn't find any information or format for application) perhaps this is just a free-form narrative that has to be developed. Also looked up IBM Chicago Schools and only found a few references to same one of which being they won't be doing 9-14 as suggested. Another piece is here http://citizenibm.com/

    Any next-steps to taken?
